Chris & I attended our childbirth preparation classes this past weekend. They were run by Pam Bogda, a labor & delivery nurse with almost 20 years of experience at Northwestern; she's now in D.C. at George Washington University Hospital. It was held at my yoga instructor Dee's house in Wrigleyville with 2 other couples and one person by herself. We really liked the 2 days of classes -- Pam was very nonjudgmental (medication v. natural labor, breastfeeding v. bottle), yet extremely informative so that we can make our own decisions based on the knowledge she shared.
Of course there was a Cubs game both days, so before we even got there I got a ticket for pulling a U-turn at an intersection to get what I thought was an open parking spot -- $75 later and ironically, we couldn't even stay in the spot because it was part of a bus stop. Chicago's finest is out there keeping Wrigleyville safe from survival-of-the-fittest drivers like me!
In any case, highlights from the classes: Guinness is good for breastfeeding mothers & supportive fathers, I do not want someone in my face during labor (this stems from the birthing video we watched -- one of the Dads was all up in his wife's face giving supportive comments), be open to what comes our way -- have a plan for labor but expect it to be changed, the "football hold" is the best for breastfeeding, and knowledge is one of the best ways to quell fear. We came away with books for more detailed info & a goody bag to bring to the hospital. I think we'll go back for an infant CPR class closer to the due date - anyone who is interested is welcome to join us!

Sounds like it was a great class! Bummer about the ticket. I agree the football hold is great for you and baby. And having someone in your face is not the most relaxing option, before i went in for my c-section people were trying to talk to me and all i could do was stare at the metal bar on the bed and focus on breathing. And yes have an idea of the labor you'd like and be prepared for change. Ooh a tip for your hospital bag, snacks for Chris, Andy hadn't eaten in hours when i was in labor but luckily had a protein bar to keep him from fainting. So excited that you're getting closer and closer, 88 more days mama!
